Explore Copacabana & Macmasters Beach

OVERVIEW

Situated on the southern end of the spectacular Central Coast, Copacabana and MacMasters are neighbouring beachfront suburbs joined by a long stretch of golden sand and a tranquil lagoon. Just a short 90 minute drive from Sydney you’ll have everything you need on your doorstep for a relaxed beachside family holiday.

THINGS TO DO

BEACHES & BUSHWALKS

Copacabana and MacMasters are all about the beach, lagoon and beautiful bushwalks. Spend the weekend relaxing at the beach or catching a wave on a world class surf break. Grab the SUP and take a paddle on the lagoon or head out into the Bouddi National Park to explore the many stunning bush walks. Easily accessed by foot or by car, Bouddi National Park is it great for visitors of all ages, fitness and abilities.

MacMaster’s is the quieter end of the beach with a beautiful ocean pool, perfect for a few early morning laps. As you head north along the sand from MacMasters you’ll enter the dog friendly stretch of the beach where you’ll find a tranquil lagoon. At the north end of the sand is Copacabana Beach. For cracker views and the chance to spot a whale (seasonal) take the short walk from the north end of the beach up to Captain Cooks Look Out which is considered one of the bests spots in NSW for whale watching.

If you’re looking for a local to show you around the stunning coastline of Bouddi National Park, we recommend Girri Girri Tours. Walk in the footsteps of Australia’s first people and feel their living connection to the 21st century. Hear timeless stories, see original rock carvings and feel the power of connecting with this beautiful country.

EAT & DRINK

Copacabana and MacMasters may be tucked away but they have the food scene thoroughly covered with heaps of cafes, a cocktail and tapas bar and a good old pizza joint. There’s even a dog friendly brewery with live music just down the road!

At the South end of the beach Mac Beach Cafe is all about surf, beats, brews and bites. If you head north along the sand (or hop in the car) you’ll find yourself at Copacabana. Here you’ll find Burnt Honey – an artisan bakery with great coffee, beautiful breads and buttery pastries. The best post-surf toasties, however, have to be at The Bees Knees.  If you’re heading out in the car then Lou Lous Coffee Shack at Macs is an eclectic little cafe tucked into the bush – this one is a definite favourite with the locals! When the sun goes down, check out Ocean Bar Cantina for tapas and cocktails. If you’re a fan of a brewery then head over to The Block n Tackle Brewery in Kincumber (5 minute drive). Check their website for Food Truck events but as a standard they have pizzas and grazing board on the menu every day as well as live music over the weekend.

FITNESS & WELLNESS

Holidays are for relaxing and unwinding so here are a few suggestions that will help get that good energy flowing.

Cloud 9 Sauna is a little slice of tropical solitude tucked away between Kincumber and MacMasters Beach. The sauna is a top of the range Outdoor Clearlight Jacuzzi brand. All sessions are completely private (unless you bring a friend). Set in lush tropical surrounds, the sauna has an inbuilt sound system, chromotherapy lighting and the signature cedarwood aroma.

Copa Yoga is a boutique yoga studio located at Copacabana. Run by Rachel Cutcliffe who travelled to Vancouver to complete her training with Semperviva Yoga, you know you’ll be in good hands.

For the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation, visit Bells Day Spa – a luxurious spa sanctuary with treatments that have been thoughtfully designed to rebalance the synergy between mind, body and soul.

KID FRIENDLY

If you’re travelling with the kids then the Central Coast has much more than beaches and bushwalks to keep the littles ones entertained. Here are a few activities that will win you some brownie points!

  • Susan Fahey Park – Tucked away in the gorgeous beachside burb of Copacabana you will find the Susan Fahey Park and its impressive Black Forrest Tower! Proving quite popular with locals when it first opened in 2021, this inclusive playground is surrounded by lush, green trees inviting kids to climb the 7 metre tower to the treetops. This also means the playground is well-shaded and as it’s not located on the busy seafront of Copa, so it really is a hidden gem.
  • Kids Playgrounds  – both MacMasters and Copacabana have a kids play parks, opposite the beach, to help the little ones blow off some steam. Make sure you pack the scooters as Copacabana also has a small pump track.
  • Australian Reptile Park – If you’re not one for tramping the tracks then get your guaranteed wildlife fix at The Australian Reptile park where you can cuddle a Koala, pat a python or even book a private tour.
  • Glenworth Valley – If you’re little ones need a bit more adrenaline in their day then head out to Glenworth Valley for Quad Biking, Laser Skirmish, Horse Riding and Abseiling.
  • Treetops Adventure Park – If you have a bunch of little monkeys in your tribe then you definitely need to head over to Tree Tops Adventure park where they can swing, leap and bounce the day away.
  • The Chocolate Factory – Explore an immersive world of chocolate, nougat and much, much more. Have a sneak peak of your beloved treats coming to life through the porthole windows, or take part in a guided tour of the factory floor, and learn how our products are made. You can even get hands on with a Junior Chocolatier Workshop!

DONT FORGET THE DOG

If you’re travelling with your four-legged friend then the Central Coast will be as fun for your fur babies and it is for the family.

The Central Coast has to be one of the most dog friendly places in NSW with heaps of pet friendly accommodation. With an long list of dog friendly beaches where Rover can and run and rumble with his buddies your fury friends won’t want to go home! After a long run at the beach, both doggo and owner will be hungry/thirsty so here’s a great list of Dog friendly watering holes
